Gerald John Davey has more than 30 years of photographic experience in fine art, photojournalistic, documentary as well as commercial photography. His photographs and essays have been published in journals, books, catalogs, major newspapers and a variety of other publications. In 2007, he was selected by San Antonio College as a Top Professor In San Antonio for Scene in San Antonio Magazine, Some recent photographic publications and awards include selection of the image "Venus,"  by juror Michelle Dunn Marsh, Director of Aperture West Foundation, for inclusion in the exhibit "Street Photography" at The Center for Fine Art Photography, Ft. Collins, CO in March-April, 2008 and "Street Tableau" for inclusion in Photographer's Forum's The Best of Photography Annual, 2007, (Santa Barbara, CA: Serbin Publications) and "Social Landscape Photography" a personal photographic essay and accompanying text, featured in Visual Communication Quarterly, Janury, 1997 (including Cover image: Ghandi, NYC) Recent academic work on photographic interpretation appears as "A Historical Approach to Understanding Documentary Photographs: Dialogue, Interpretation, and Method,” in Handbook of Visual Communication: Theory, Methods, and Media, eds. Ken Smith, Sandra Moriarty, Gretchen Barbatsis, Keith Kenney (Routledge, London: 2005).

 

 

Dr. Davey obtained his Ph. D. in 1992 at the University of Iowa with a concentration in visual communication and has taught at the university level for the last fifteen years. He also holds M.A., M. Div. and B. A. with Honors degrees. Dr. Davey currently resides with his family in San Antonio, TX.
